Day After...

And it is cold, quite cold. But the snow and wind have stopped.

But yesterday had a party feel to it. All the neighbors were out digging out. John was out helping for probably 6 hours. All of us street parkers had to dig out and as soon as the plow went through move our cars to the other side of the street so when the plows came back they could do the other side of the street. We live where the streets are narrow.

The day ended with a holiday feel. We made a turkey breast, a sweet potato souffle and pie and had our condo neighbors in for a potluck. A nice end to a big snow day.

John is out shoveling the end of the drive and then we are kind of back to normal.

BIG, FAT, Snow storm is here...

L ots of shoveling to do. Big, heavy, wet snow. Blizzard conditions until midnight. More snow, blowing snow and cold temps to come. The city is shut down, no buses. Apparently the city has only shut down like this 3 times in the last 40 years. It's a Winter Wonderland. This is the Winter of my childhood. A perfect day to work from home.

BIG, FAT Storm coming...

T omorrow morning we should wake up to 12" of snow, very cold temps and blowing snow.

John ran out and got Ryan some new tires. I will run out and mail ebay auctions before the snow hits hard.

And tomorrow we will hunker down and stay in. I have a plan for a condo potluck so the world will be Winter white and I will be making turkey, sweet potato soufflé, pie, etc... I love to cook when we have a blizzard.

Winter DT

Here is a shot with my new camera... It is snow on the balcony on the 12th floor of our building. The whiteness on the other side of the bars is Lake Monona...

And I was thrilled to plug my new camera into my computer it was totally plug and play. The photos immediately went into iPhoto just like they should.

Another cold day here somewhere in the teens... But we are going to go out and visit a art museum today just for a change of scenery.

First Day of Winter...

This is the view from the 12th floor of the apartment building. The one above is looking out over the lake. It is all just a day of grey and cold. The windchill is -29. I am staying in for the day and just working.

We were going to Dubuque today to see John's Mom. But we will go tomorrow. It should be warmer and less windy.

Today is shortest day and longest night of the year. Starting tomorrow the days get longer! That always thrills me. And if I heard correctly we have gotten 35 inches of snow already before this first day of Winter. Last year Madison got an unusual amount of 100 inches, if this keeps up at this rate we could reach that.

Snowing...

It is now snowing here. John could be back from the shoot anytime between now and maybe noon. We will then get on the road hoping to just get behind a snow plow and take our time getting back to Madison.

I'll knit... we are listening to our book on tape. It appears we are 3 hours from Madison in good weather. We hope to home by dinner time.

It is odd that Midwesterners measure distance by time. In addition to being 3 hours from Madison it is also 125 miles. But we may have to drive an hour or so on small 2 lane roads before we can get to a 4 lane road.
