Art in Des Moines....

Everyone makes fun of the Midwest. If a movie or story wants to make someone sound small town or back water they are from Des Moines or Dubuque. In further blogs I may show why people do think that but not true of Des Moines. We make a yearly Summer trek to Des Moines to see friends. This year our visit coincided with the Des Moines Art Fair. This is a great fair, not too big, not too small and full of well-juried, top-drawer art. This year there was construction but it is always on the DT bridges. I got this great clock from Chris Giffin. She also makes fab found object jewelry too.

Meet Rex. He lives in our friend's front yard and is enormous. Rex is a creation of Dale Merrill's Liberty Iron Works in Mt. Vernon, IA, www.L-I-W.com. He is a large metal welded piece. Rex has solar powered glow in the dark eyes, very cool.
