Not only is it Winter but it is December. A month of Christmas Specials. Thought I give you some hope with a couple of upcoming PBS favorites!

kingdom, british tv series

 

i would say if you like Doc Martin you will probably like Kingdom. It has that sort of slow, wandering, small town British feel to it.

Wikipedia says: Kingdom is a British television series produced by Parallel Film and Television Productions for the ITV network. It was created by Simon Wheeler and stars Stephen Fry as Peter Kingdom, a Norfolk solicitor who is coping with family, colleagues, and the strange locals who come to him for legal assistance.

I enjoy Stephen Fry. So it was a treat to stumble on 18 episodes. Each series is six-one-hour espisodes. It aired from 2007-2009.

I am making a new font, an alphabet one, which takes many, many hours. I enjoy having a movie play as I work. I like these slower moving British TV shows as I can follow along and work at the same time. I am about halfway though the series and am streaming it from Netflix. Of course then I hate it when there are no more.

life on mars, uk tv series

we are sadly almost done with this British TV series which aired from 2006 - 2007. Two more episodes and we are done. While I would say it is not for everyone we are enjoying it. Since it is older it is a little hard to find. I got the first year on Netflix and then wondered why it ended without more resolution. Then our friend Susan let us know that there was a another whole season. It was not on Netflix which is why I didn't think there was more. I am getting the second season from the library. I enjoy British shows. I would say the dialog is fast paced and in the beginning a little hard to understand.

Wikipedia says: Life on Mars tells the fictional story of Sam Tyler (John Simms), a policeman in service with the Greater Manchester Police. After being hit by a car in 2006, Tyler awakens in 1973 to find himself working for the predecessor of the GMP, the Manchester and Salford Police at the same station and location as in 2006. "My name is Sam Tyler, I had an accident and I woke up in 1973. Am I mad, in a coma, or back in time? Whatever's happened, it's like I've landed on a different planet. Maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home..." Early on in the series, it becomes apparent to Tyler that he awakes as a Detective Inspector, one rank lower than his 2006 rank of Detective Chief Inspector. As part of the Criminal Investigation Department, Tyler finds himself working under the command of Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister).

Throughout the two series, the plot centres on the ambiguity concerning Tyler's predicament of it being unclear to both the audience and the character whether he has died, gone mad or into a coma, or has actually traveled back in time.

Be sure and get the British series rather than the American version.

downton abbey, season 3

From money woes to bumpy relationships, see what’s in store for the new season. There are a few spoilers here. Also, check out the official website for the latest info. Downton Abbey Season 3 airs Jan 6th. Can't wait. In the mean time I am enjoying Doc Martin. It appears it is all streamable on Netflix again. The cast and characters will keep me company this week as I continue to draw Flower and Leaf Borders.

This Doc Martin...

Not my new shoes (Dr. Martens)... OK that was just a chance to show off my new shoes... but aren't these fun? Last year I got the black and white polka dot pair. But I digress.

If you like British TV you may like Doc Martin. Shortly they are starting their 6th season so there is lots to watch. I think this is what I will watch next week as I start to draw my flower border font. I like having something streaming on my computer as I draw.

You can stream the 39 shows. There are 2 feature length movies that are prequels. I would recommend watching those first as they set up the show. Those are on disk though.

Crippled by a sudden -- and altogether inconvenient -- fear of blood, flashy surgeon Dr. Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes) abandons his bustling London practice and sets up shop as a country doctor in this medically minded British sitcom.
