Lung Cancer and Radon...
/Today's post is a sad one. Today my friend Carol is having surgery for lung cancer. Plz send a prayer her way. Carol has never smoked, her husband has never smoked and she has not really been around second hand smoke. She lives a very healthy lifestyle. More so than I do.
My Dad died of lung cancer in February. At their peak I think my folks together went thru 5 packs of cigarettes a day.
Some things you may not know... Lung cancer kills more men and women than any other type of cancer. It has passed breast cancer, which used to be the leading cause of cancer death in women. While we don’t like to “blame†people for past behavior, of course cigarette smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer. Smokers (including second-hand smoke) have a 10 to 30 times greater risk for lung cancer.
The US Surgeon General has stated that THE SECOND LEADING CAUSE OF LUNG CANCER IS RADON EXPOSURE. It is recommended that every house be checked for radon levels. Even if your neighbor’s house is OK, yours may be high. It is relatively inexpensive to do. You can purchase a kit that you set in your basement or wherever, and then you mail it in and they tell you the level. If you haven’t done this, please do it. If your house’s radon level is high, you can take steps to lower it.
Here is a link to a site that explains it all in an easy to understand way.
And today while Carol is having surgery we will get a test kit for radon. Plz do the same.
