Art Therapy #20

Hey we are back! This is where Rae and Nancy send each other postcards. We were weekly, but we are a bit, ok a lot more random right now. Nancy, of the traveling shoes, has landed and I was delighted to get a card from her. Hopefully we will get back to weekly postcards. So satisfying to get art and the written word in the mail.

These 2 images are from Nancy’s Naked People 2019 calendar. These 2 are among my favorites.

I have Christmas in my head. Christmas or Winter fabric. Also I need to do a series of NOLA (New Orleans) fabric because it is in my head begging to get out.

This is a current entry in Minted’s sympathy card challenge. I like it because it is not the usual flowery sympathy card. Maybe it is too different.

I feel a need to change my style… or really expand my style. Over the Winter I am going to spend time with watercolors, colored pencils and Procreate on my seriously underused iPad. Plan to put a movie or music on and draw. I am also taking Jenna Kutcher’s Instagram Class with is packed with good info.

As Winter progress I hope you are all snuggled in. Christmas is almost here.

Christmas is coming....

Yes, Christmas is coming, always faster than we want. I love it when I get a photo card in the mail. Here is a card that I designed for this very, new site called Pippa. Thanksgiving is gone. Time to dive into Christmas. I just put together the neighborhood Songs of the Season event flyer. I used the Yuletide Doodles and the Christmas Doodles font to add some easy artwork. Use some fun fonts and Bob’s your Uncle.

Christmas voting on Minted...

It is Christmas time for any artist who designs Christmas items. Here my two entries in a Minted Christmas challenge. I am very pleased with both and I am creating a new script lettering style for my Minted work which I am happy with. Some of you have been asking how to vote. This week is a Spoonflower week for me. I have several new fabrics that I am putting up in their Animals by Land contest. Hope your week will be filled with fun and creativity too.

Art Therapy #15

Here we are again. This is where Rae and Nancy make art postcards and mail them to each other. My guess is that we exchanged our cards 30 weeks last year. So 30 times I went to the mail box and there was a slightly oversized kraft envelope from Nancy with something thoughtful or silly or fun.

My goal is always to do something quick because in all the other art things I do I think too much. I did a series of these Black Haired Girls. They were fun.

Inspiration came from this shot of 3 vintage mannequins. I am awaiting mine which is the first one. If anyone knows the age of these plz leave a comment. I am guessing they are from the 40s or 50s.

I have endless art supplies in my tiny office. I ran across a couple boxes of these silver and gold metal stars. In fact I glued them on everything, packages, cards etc.

Nancy and I seem to both be trying our hand at watercolour again. I particularly like the white space behind the flower. A reminder to me to leave some white space. Also like how she painted her leaves. Nice one!

Another bit of Spring just as the North has gotten cold and snowy. Thanks Nancy for that.

Back again in a couple weeks with more postcard art. In the mean time plz send some real mail to someone. It really does mean a lot. I have 3 friends in their 90s who I send a postcard to every week. It means a lot to them. And they tell me so.

I hate to ever ask anyone to vote for me in anything.

But things have changed in the last few years with how we buy things... Netfix, Amazon, iTunes for movies, music, books and pretty much everything else. Buying fonts has also changed. Now there are discount places where you can buy a $1500 bundle of fonts for $39. I can't compete with that.

So I am trying to break into Minted. Minted is a website that has Challenges, which are really Contests, which is really Spec Work. Artists create art based on the current challenge and people vote.

If you do not win you get nothing. I you do win it can be profitable and then you get your own store.

Merry Christmas to all! And it does look a lot like Christmas! We are in the midst of our traveling and cooking and all that goes with this holiday. We managed trip one between freezing drizzle and returned to town just as the second round of the same hit. Did our grocery shopping during the 8 or so inches of snow we got. Today I start a few things that can be made ahead.

As we go through the season remember those who are alone, or lonely or sick. This is a hard time for many.

And let it snow...
