Wish you were here! Day 1

L eaving, but not on a jet plane. As soon as our house sitter shows up we are out of here.

I have always wanted to take a Winter vacation where we just put John's golf clubs, clothes, and my computer in the car and drive out of the snow and cold heading South, stopping to see the world's biggest ball of string or whatever. Wandering with a destination in mind but the ability to change that as we see fit.

We took 2 of these trips as kids. The day after Christmas my folks loaded the station wagon with the 4 kids and off we went. One year we went to Austin to see my Uncle and family. Another year we went to Atlanta to see my Aunt and family. I remember how exciting it was to leave in the dark and cold. The downside to these early trips were that my parents both smoked and we all got car sick. It was years until they quit smoking and magically we quit getting carsick.

Later my parents would take Winter trips to Texas, Florida and eventually always to Phoenix where they would Winter with my sister. And they always sounded SO happy. And they never failed to give me a weather report. The only time I ever remember being jealous of anyone was them on these trips enjoying the sun and warmth...

Gotta run, Artie just got here. Must load the car and head on out. More tomorrow! Or maybe later tonight...
